The NCHC is the site of a two-day workshop on the "Technologies
and Applications for the Next Generation Internet." It
was a breakout meeting, held March 1-2, 1999 during the bilateral
reviews of the cooperative program between the National Science
Council of Taiwan and the National Research Council of Canada.
Dr. Morven Gentleman, Director General of the Institute for
Information Technology, an institution under the NRC, led a
delegation well represented by academia, government and industry.
Dr. Andrew Bjerring, President and CEO of CANARIE, and Dr. Geoff
Goddard of Nortel, were among the invited speakers representing
advanced networks in Canada. Local presenters are mostly drawn
from leaders in the field. Many participated in the National
Telecommunications Development Program (NTP). Three organizations
co-hosted the workshop: the NTP Office, the NCHC, and the Northern
Regional Telecommunications Center of the NSC.
Topics
discussed included CA*net3, National Projects for the NGI,
Internet Applications, High-speed Internet Access, Network
Engineering and Management, Accessing Content and Streaming
Data. Archived presentations are available for browsing and
download at the web site maintained by the NTP Office: http://www.ntpo.nsc.gov.tw
