Main Consideration Issues of Developing Interactive Multimedia Communication Software over Broadband Internet

Prof. Chung-Ming Huang
Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering

Abstract

With the wide spread of Internet, the execution environment of software is enlarged from the stand-alone centralized environment to the distributed networking environment. The future success of Internet depends not only on the underlined networking technologies but also on the top interactive communication software. On one hand, new networking concepts and techniques can realize new interactive communication software; on the other hands, new interactive communication software requirements can push out new networking technologies. Typical examples of interactive communication software include video conference, on-demand systems, and voice-over-IP. Many considerations should be resolved in order to develop successful interactive communication software. For example, the streaming technique. In the coming era of QOS-based broadband Internet, the development of interactive communication software becomes more complicated. In the talk, main considerations of developing interactive multimedia communication software that deals with text, image, graphics, audio, and video are briefly identified. Through the identified considerations, R&Ders of interactive multimedia communication software can justify corresponding system development issues in a systemic way.
