The NGI Application of Astronomical Research and Education in Taiwan

Wean-Shun Tsay
Institute of Astronomy, National Central University

Abstract

Astronomy is all about vision of our perception to the university. Naked-eye observations of the sun, moon, planets, and stars established the foundations of astronomy for thousands of years from ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign. In the 2000 millennium, the MoE has approved the proposal of upgrading the national astronomical infrastructures in Taiwan to enhance exiting projects (TAOS, SLT ant TON), and to provide a platform for all universities to develop future scientifically competitive astronomical projects and teaching facilities for training students and young astronomers in Taiwan. The National Central University is developing the Lu-Lin Observatory in the Jade Mountain National Park for research and education. The Central University is planning fast Internet communication from the Lu-Lin Observatory to Host University in order to contact with the worldwide collaborators such as LLNL (TAOS), Yale (SLT) and CHARA.
