Peers
Lists the peer networks or research consortia that
are currently connected to TANet2.
Institutions
Lists the universities and research institutes that
are currently connected to TANet2.
Actively seeking
out international research alliances has always been one of the most
important missions for NCHC. As a national laboratory in high performance
computing, NCHC assumes the role of not only promoting the state-of-the-art
computing technology in Taiwan, but also scouting for the most recent
global development. Thus, to stimulate the local advancement of research
in computing applications and in return, to contribute to the consolidation
of global cooperation. The connection to vBNS
via STARTAP marks
the commencement of a new era in our persistent pursuit
The page lists
international research networks and consortiums that are currently peering
with TANet2. This list is in chronological order.
vBNS
(Very high performance Backbone Network Service)
- vBNS is
the network that supports high-performance, high-bandwidth application
research activities across USA. It was launched as a five-year cooperative
agreement between MCI
and the NSF.
CANARIE
(Canadian's Network for the Advancement of Research, Industry and Education)
- The Canadian
consortium was created to facilitate the development of Canada's communication
infrastructure. Its members include organizations and individuals
from the private sectors, such as telecommunications, broadband technology,
computer industry, as well as universities and research communities.
SingAREN
(Singapore Advanced Research and Education Network)
- SingAREN
is a national initiative launched in 1997 to create a high-speed broadband
network serving Singaporean academic and industrial users. It is also
connected to both vBNS (14 Mbps) and CANARIE, as well as various R&D
networks in Japan (2 Mpbs). SingAREN is funded by Singapore's National
Science and Technology Board (NSTB) and Telecommunication
Authority of Singapore (TAS).
ESnet
(Energy Sciences Network)
- ESnet provides
the global networking infrastructure for over 20,000 scientists worldwide
using DOE (the Department
of Energy) sponsored facilities and high performance computing
resources to conduct collaborative research and development. ESnet
is a DOE sponsored research network to serve the DOE community. Its
NOC is located at National
Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory, USA.
Abilene
- One of the
most advanced R&E networks in the world, Abilene is a project of the
University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID) in
the US. It is an advanced backbone network that supports the work
of Internet2 universities as they develop advanced Internet applications.
About 182 institutions are connected to the network.
